Questions and answers

Plain answers on how we work, what a project involves, how pricing and payment go, and what to prepare before you write to us.

Frequently asked questions

These are the questions producers and studio managers ask us most often before a first project. If yours is not covered, write to us through the contact page and we will answer directly.

What kind of studios do you work with?

We work with television news studios and live-show studios, from a single-desk set to a larger floor with a separate gallery. Most clients are broadcasters and production teams who are building a new space, refitting an old one or tightening how an existing crew works day to day.

Do you supply equipment or only advice?

We are consultants, so we plan, specify and train rather than sell hardware. We can describe what a layout, lighting plot or audio chain needs and help you compare options, but purchasing stays with you and your own suppliers.

Can you work in a studio that is already running?

Yes. Many of our projects take place around a live schedule, so we agree working windows with the studio manager in advance. Training and layout surveys can be done between programmes, and larger changes are planned around quieter days.

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on the service. A training session is usually a single day, a lighting plot or sound review takes a few days including a site visit, and a full studio layout is planned over several weeks. We give a realistic timeline in the written quotation.

Who will actually do the work?

The people on our team page. Helen leads layout and workflow projects, James designs lighting, Priya runs camera training and Tom handles sound, talkback and gallery set-up. You are told at the start who will be assigned to your project.

How do I get a price for my project?

Send an enquiry through the contact page describing the studio, the programmes and what you want changed. We reply with questions if needed, then issue a written quotation. The prices page shows starting figures for each type of work.

How and when do I pay?

Once you accept the quotation we confirm the work in writing and send an invoice, which you pay by bank transfer. Nothing is paid on the website itself. The invoice states what the price covers and the payment terms.

What happens if I need to cancel or change the dates?

Tell us as early as you can by email or phone. Dates can usually be moved by agreement, and cancellations and refunds follow our payment and refund policy, which sets out what is returned at each stage of a project.
